Itinerary C5D/J: Central & Southern Galápagos Expedition

Sunday: CANAL ITABACA – YACHT GOLONDRINA & YACHT FRAGATA PM CANAL ITABACA – Pick-up at approximately 18:00.

Monday: SOUTH PLAZAS ISLAND – SANTA FE ISLAND AM PLAZAS ISLAND – (Dry landing) This small island with steep cliffs was formed by uplifted lava and is now covered with Opuntia cacti. It is home to one of the largest sea lion colonies, as well as colorful yellow and red land iguanas. Many seabirds—such as tropicbirds and swallow-tailed gulls—rest on the cliffs. The island’s most characteristic plant is Sesuvium, which turns greenish-yellow during the rainy season and bright red in the dry season (late June to January). Hike: 2.5 km Lunch on board.

PM SANTA FE – (Wet landing) Observe colonies of sea lions, land iguanas, swallow-tailed gulls, terns, and petrels. A trail into the heart of the island leads to a forest of giant cactus and palo santo trees. After the land visit, enjoy swimming and snorkeling. Briefing and dinner on board.

Tuesday: SAN CRISTÓBAL – LOBOS ISLAND AM: Volcanic Wonders & Iconic Beaches LEÓN DORMIDO (Kicker Rock) – Circumnavigation (No landing). Rising dramatically from the heart of the Pacific, this colossal volcanic formation is a true masterpiece of nature. Split perfectly in two, it creates a breathtakingly narrow channel, offering an unforgettable, scenic navigation experience. CERRO BRUJO – (Wet landing) Located on the north coast of San Cristóbal, this eroded tuff cone features one of the most picturesque beaches in the Galápagos, known for its coral sand and abundant wildlife including sea turtles, rays, and several species of boobies. Beach walk, panga ride, and swimming opportunities. Lunch on board.

PM LOBOS ISLAND – (Dry landing) Home to an important colony of sea lions, as well as blue-footed boobies and frigatebirds. Beautiful scenery and an excellent location for snorkeling. Return to the yacht. Dinner and briefing.

Wednesday: ESPAÑOLA ISLAND AM SUÁREZ POINT – (Dry and/or wet landing) A great place to observe blue-footed boobies, Nazca (masked) boobies, marine iguanas, sea lions, Galápagos doves, and Darwin's finches. From April to December, you may also see the majestic waved albatross and their courtship dance (in April). The site also features a spectacular blowhole that shoots water high into the air. Hike: 3 km Lunch on board.

PM GARDNER BAY – (Wet landing) The white sand beach is home to a large sea lion colony. Hiking, swimming, and snorkeling are excellent here. GARDNER ISLET – Great opportunities to see sea lions, marine turtles, and finches. Snorkeling and swimming. OSBORN ISLET – A small islet southeast of Española, offering excellent snorkeling and swimming. Dinner and briefing.

Thursday: FLOREANA ISLAND – SANTA CRUZ ISLAND AM CORMORANT POINT – (Wet landing) Visit a large flamingo lagoon also inhabited by common stilts and white-cheeked pintails. The olivine sand gives the beach its greenish color. On the opposite side lies a fine white sand beach where marine turtles nest from December to May. Hike: 2 km DEVIL’S CROWN – (No landing) An eroded volcanic crater offering some of the best snorkeling in the islands, with coral formations and abundant marine life such as colorful fish, sharks, and sea turtles. PM CHARLES DARWIN STATION (SANTA CRUZ ISLAND) Part of the Charles Darwin Foundation, operating since 1959 and dedicated to scientific research in the Galápagos. This visit provides an excellent introduction to the islands’ origin, ecology, and conservation. Learn about the Galápagos giant tortoise breeding program. End of the trip.
