Red mangrove

The red mangrove is a salt-tolerant coastal tree recognized by its arching stilt roots. The tangled roots form sheltered nursery habitat for young fish, rays, and sea turtles, and they stabilize shorelines. It is pantropical and not endemic to the Galápagos, though it fringes many of the archipelago’s lagoons and bays.
