The large ground finch is the biggest of Darwin’s finches and has the most massive bill in the group. That heavy bill can crack hard, large seeds other finches cannot open. It is endemic to the Galápagos and fairly common in arid lowlands across most of the archipelago, and its bill makes it one of the easiest Darwin’s finches to identify.
