A red-sand beach island south of Santiago, colored by iron-rich volcanic rock, with a sea lion colony and a coastal lagoon. Brown pelicans nest in saltbushes behind the beach, and the lagoon draws wading birds and white-cheeked pintails. Blue-footed and Nazca boobies frequent the cliffs.
